Dr. Carolyn C. W. Hines
Summary of Professional Achievement

For more than 20 years, Dr. Carolyn C.W. Hines served as President and co-owner of C&W Associates, Inc., a Newport News, Virginia-based human resources development corporation employing 300 plus persons. Currently she is President of C.W. Hines and Associates, Inc., specializing in alternate dispute resolution, executive coaching, workforce diversity, management consulting and training, organizational development, team building and transformational leadership.

Dr. Hines received her undergraduate education at Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia and Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts (1967). She holds three graduate degrees including a Doctorate in Counseling and Higher Education Administration from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia (1973-78). She has completed post-graduate work in Research Analysis, Training and Development, Personnel Management, Business Administration and Human Resources Development, Executive Coaching and the Center for Creative Leadership.

Dr. Hines is a licensed professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, certified relationship specialist, and she has been certified as a mediator by the Virginia Supreme Court and a mediator and arbitrator by the National Association of Securities Dealers. She holds Diplomate Status in the American Psychotherapy Association. She has served as a Commissioner for the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority. She teaches on the faculty of the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute of Virginia Commonwealth University and the National Center for Leadership and Management.

A popular keynoter, Dr. Hines is an internationally ranked public speaker. She has an extensive background as a trainer and consultant in both the public and private sectors in Productivity Systems Planning. Her National Productivity Improvement Model contributed to her selection as a national finalist as a White House Fellow.

She has developed and published several handbooks on Transformational Leadership, Executive Coaching, Career Development, Effective Communications, Teambuilding, Caring Competencies, Coaching and Counseling and Work Force Diversity. She was the keynote speaker for the Senior Executive Service Forum, featuring her book, Inside Track: Executives Coaching Executives.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Career Highlights

1983, appointed by Major General Maxwell Thurman to a world-wide task force to develop the U.S. Army White Paper on the status of the Army Family.

1986, elected as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business where she also served as Vice-Chair for the Virginia Delegation.

1987, received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Contracting.

1990, selected as the state winner for the Minority Business Advocate Award given by the Small Business Administration.

1991, awarded the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of the Secretary’s Outstanding Women-Owned Business Enterprise Award.

1991, named to the Board of Visitors for Christopher Newport University by Governor L. Douglas Wilder. Reappointed by Governor Allen in 1994 for a four year term and served as Vice-Rector from 1996-1998.

1992, named by Governor Douglas Wilder to the Defense Conversion Commission.

1994, Co-author of Nuts and Bolts of Work Force Diversity.

1994, Co-author of Legal Issues Chapter in the Controller’s Business Advisor.

1994, Identifying Racism: Specific Examples published in the Managing Diversity Newsletter.

1995-2001, served as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, with the rank of General Officer.

1996, appointed to the Board of Directors for the Saint Bernardine Franciscan Foundation of Bon Secours; The College of William and Mary Development Board; and the Civilian Marksmanship Board.

1998, received the Peninsula Women’s Forum “Woman of the Year Award” for Business and Industry.

2001, selected for the Faculty Excellence Award by the USDA Graduate School, National Leadership Development Academy.

2002, awarded the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal by the Department of Army.

2002, named to the Board of Directors for SCORE, Inc.

2003, Co-author of Inside Track: Executives Coaching Executives.

2003, awarded the Energy Star Partner by the Environmental Protection Agency.

2004, awarded the Daisy Bates Courage Award for Entrepreneurship from the National Federation of Women Business Owners.

2004, named Scholar in Residence by the National Alliance of Black School Educators.

2005, published MONEY MUSCLE, 122 EXERCISES to BUILD SPIRITUAL and FINANCIAL HEALTH.

2006, featured in the March/April issue of GSA MarkeTips magazine.

2006, elected Vice President for the Old Dominion University Community Development Corporation.
